Iza’s Family Kilimanjaro Climb Challenge

Posted in The World of Blue Almonds: News on July 12th, 2018

This August our intrepid founder/Owner Iza Minkiewicz will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro along with her husband Marcin and their 10 year old Son Filip.

They will be undertaking the challenge in support of Global Angels, an international development charity – specifically to raise funds for a new classroom in a nearby community farm centre in the Itinyi Valley in the Tsavo region of Kenya.

If you would like to donate – please visit our Just Giving page.

The Challenge

Because of Mt Kilimanjaro’s unique location on the African plains, Iza and her family will have to contend with a wide variety of conditions – heat, humidty, rain, desert and then ice and snow as they make their way up through the 5 ‘zones’ of the trek. Hot Farmland, Steamy Jungle, Moorland, High Desert and Frozen Summit await them – with each zone posing its own unique set of challenges.

However, the main problem facing them will be altitude sickness. Not everyone who starts the climb makes it to the top due to acute mountain sickness – which can be very dangerous unless you stop climbing and retreat to a lower altitude. We know Iza and her family are in safe hands with Adventure Alternative who are organising the trek – but they would love to know that their efforts are raising much needed money for the classroom project.

Please join us in supporting Iza and her family as they prepare for this challenge. Any amount of sponsorship will mean the world to them – and to the community they are hoping to support.

You will be able to follow their progress on Iza’s instagram account and we will post some updates on the Blue Almonds instagram account.

Kili Fact:

Mt Kilimanjaro is 5,895m high – that’s 1,000 meters higher than Mont Blanc!

Kili Fact:

Mt Kilimanjaro is one of the most ‘prominent’ mountains in the world. That means the height between the summit and the lowest contour line circling it. As such, Kilimanjaro commands spectacular views over the surrounding landscape.
