Breathing Techniques for a Calm and Confident Birth with Anthonissa Moger
Expert breathing techniques from Hypnobirthing Teacher Anthonissa Moger
We were very privileged to have Nissa (Anthonissa Moger) who is a mum, Hypnobirthing teacher and also a Midwife at St Thomas’ hospital, come and share some great breathing techniques with us and a lucky group of mums-to-be at our store.
Her breathing techniques help you stay calm and relaxed during labour and also help you feel confident and more in control. These techniques can be used anywhere at any time, and can even be used to help combat the stresses and anxieties of everyday life!
To help you get the most out of these breathing techniques, Nissa recommends learning them with your birth partner. Not only will they be able to help you stay focused on the breathing, but you will feel more connected and unified with your partner as well.
See below for our video of her demonstrating the techniques, or see below to read the techniques at your own pace…
Close your eyes
Connect with your body and breath.
Breathe slowly, in through your nose and out through your mouth – 1 per count, while slowly counting backwards from 5.
Consciously let go of tension.
Afterwards, check in with your body, before gently opening your eyes.
This technique is most effective once your contractions are established and regular, and can be used up until the point you need to start pushing
Close your eyes and place your hand on your bump and connect with your baby. With each breath, breathe right down to the baby. This will help you feel more centred.
Breathe in slowly through the nose for a slow count of four
Breath out slowly through the mouth for a slow count of seven
Practice this for a couple of minutes per day before gently opening your eyes.
